Sowing the Seeds…
The sheer beauty and abundance of a gorgeous plot can be creatively overwhelming but there’s something about a beautiful garden that urges us to record and remember it… where do you begin?
In this course, you will learn how to start creating your own unique garden journal where you can record your own adventures in gardening.
You don’t need to have a garden to do this workshop! There are loads of lovely references to use throughout each of the lessons. You could also use the class to record days out to open gardens or the plants in your local park, allotment or window box!
Includes Step-By-Step Instructions, Tips & Tricks
The techniques in this workshop are quick, enjoyable and very versatile so you're more likely to keep your journal going throughout the year.
This introduction is a great way to learn how to look at and record your garden creatively and expressively without fear of the blank page getting in the way!
During the lessons, I encourage you to explore and record the colours and textures in your garden … we will also get sketching! This course is brilliant if you have never drawn before, maybe a bit scared or don't know where to start.
Growing strong, creative roots!
The workshop is divided up into five parts and with each section there is a video to watch.
Throughout the classes, there are lots of mini tasks and creative activities to work on. You can do these tasks in your own garden/local park or using the printable references (or both!)
You will learn everything you need to know to get started and be inspired to keep going!
You just need a few basic tools and techniques and you are away!
All experience levels welcome at this fun and friendly workshop … especially beginners!
Ann
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your journaling class. The reading list, the exercises and your unique approach has changed the way I approach my lettering, my art and my day! I laugh out loud at your anecdotes and you have such a lovely way of presenting your subject. I'm definitely a fan and I'll be stalking you in more online classes in the future.
Just a note to say thank you for the for the class last night. You gave us some really useful starters and I like the 'you cannot go wrong and if you do just paint/paper over it' approach. The classes are helping me to feel interested again in what I am doing and spurring me on to do more, so, a big 'thank you' for that too.
Lucia Leyfield
Lucia is an artist, letterer and teacher who loves creating illustrated journals and artist books. She has become known for a unique and creative approach to her work which has been described as 'quietly joyful...a nostalgic, moving and profound ...a treasure chest of creativity and inspiration'
Her journals and sketchbooks, which record life as it happens, conversations, inspirations and experiments, have become works of art in their own right. Many of Lucia's sketchbooks are handmade with a range of papers and combine traditional and experimental hand lettering with watercolour, collage and mixed media sketches.
She is inspired by a diverse range of things: the old, rusty and wonky, worn architectural patinas, ancient diagrams, aged buildings, old books and ephemera, explorers' sketchbooks and vintage field guides.
