Exploring the Possibilities of Pencils!
How can a workshop be both extremely relaxing but exciting at the same time?!
Well, this one definitely is! By using graphite and coloured pencils, we will explore the range of marks and effects you can get and how you can then use these to generate emphasis in a sketch.
This is a relaxing and fun workshop suitable for all ages and experience levels...you don't need to be able to draw...promise!

Includes Step-By-Step Instructions and Tips & Tricks
You will learn some exciting ways to collect tone and pattern through textures and marks all done with a humble pencil.
These techniques are really useful to add texture to a landscape or drawing enabling them to shine as mini artworks in simple books or as beautiful additions to your sketchbook.
As with all my classes, there's loads of little useful tips, cheats and hacks!
Fun, Friendly and Welcoming!
This is a great workshop if you are new to sketch booking or are fearful of the blank page. Pencils are very low barrier tools...we are familiar with them and they are lovely to use!
The whole process of learning what marks that you can get out of your pencil is relaxing and restorative.
If you want explore the course of landscape workshops on offer, this is the third of five classes, however, this workshop also works as an individual session in its own right.
Come and join the fun!

I can’t believe now that I just abandoned art after school. I even threw away my nice old sketchbooks and teenage drawings last year because I told myself that I had to be really good at art to do it. I’d forgotten that’s not the point at all.
Anyway, just thought I’d tell you how happy it’s made me to start drawing again... you are bringing something wonderful to people’s lives, mine included.

Thank you for the workshop, Lucia, and for the lesson. It was an epiphany... the permission to use artistic licence! Wow! I do love your sheet of little pictures, just like I do the lettering sheets from the last workshop I did with you...thank you for the spur to start again a daily art practice.
Lucia Leyfield
Lucia is an artist, letterer and teacher who loves creating illustrated journals and artist books. She has become known for a unique and creative approach to her work which has been described as 'quietly joyful...a nostalgic, moving and profound ...a treasure chest of creativity and inspiration'
Her journals and sketchbooks, which record life as it happens, conversations, inspirations and experiments, have become works of art in their own right. Many of Lucia's sketchbooks are handmade with a range of papers and combine traditional and experimental hand lettering with watercolour, collage and mixed media sketches.
She is inspired by a diverse range of things: the old, rusty and wonky, worn architectural patinas, ancient diagrams, aged buildings, old books and ephemera, explorers' sketchbooks and vintage field guides.
