Collaged Birds with Alice Melvin

For this special pre-recorded workshop, I'm really delighted to be joined by artist and illustrator Alice Melvin.

Alice will share the unique process she has developed for creating her beautiful bird collages which feature on cards, prints and calendars published by Art Angels.

Blue Tits and Blossom!

During this class, we will create a collaged Blue Tit sat on a branch of Blackthorn blossom. The workshop is divided into sections representing the stages of the process Alice uses to build her birds from a fledgling idea, through to sketching a template, cutting the paper parts and adding embellishments with pencils (and, not forgetting, Alice's much loved tool, the Posca pen!)

This is an easy to follow 'art recipe' project that is endlessly adaptable and allows you to add your own 'ingredients' along the way. Once you've made one bird you can craft yourself a whole flock!!

Working in a way that suits you

Option 1: The 'no draw' method!

Create your little Blue Tit using the printable template hand drawn by Alice. There are two size options (medium or large). No drawing required...just a good bit of cutting and colouring!

Option 2: Draw your own Bird

If you enjoy drawing, feel free to create your own template! Alice shows how she draws and develops her rough template image using multiple references.

What's covered in the class?

  • How to create a master template
  • Developing ideas using reference sources
  • Cutting and constructing your bird
  • Tips on embellishment using coloured paper
  • Advice and support with materials

What do I get when I buy?

  • Unlimited access to the workshop. Watch as often as you like!

What people are saying:

THANK YOU for inviting me to your "Free Work-a-long" yesterday!  For me - it was so enjoyable listening to you talk about your creative life and art.  In addition, I absolutely loved seeing the artwork created by the other ladies and listening to them discuss projects, books, meeting people, etc.  This was like a 'VISUAL PODCAST" where we worked along with you.~Karla

Thank you! I cannot begin to tell you  how wonderful I think this workshop is! Every time I think your classes can’t get any better …..Like many of your followers I feel this is the class I’ve been looking for but didn’t realise it!  Brilliant! ~Jane

I just wanted to thank you for how you make your classes accessible for me. I’m disabled and on a low income so many course offerings are beyond my affordability. Thank you for your generosity I very much appreciate it. I just did the mini map making course.  What fun!  I have a brain injury so video is the only way I can learn and I find your teaching style clear and simple to follow. ~Penny
