Live Wonky Draw Wonky

This year, the Wonky Line Drawing Club focuses on drawing from observation and memory—a process that encourages you to trust your instincts, combine what you see with what you imagine, and create work that feels more personal and expressive.

Rather than aiming for “perfect” drawings, these sessions invite you to embrace a more illustrative, intuitive approach, where there is no right or wrong—just a process of discovery.

These exploratory drawing sessions are designed to help you loosen up, build confidence, and develop your own unique line. It's great to help you focus and find your own voice.

What to Expect

There are 6 sessions in this collection.

Each session is designed as a stand-alone experience, while also forming part of a wider journaling practice.

In every session, you’ll be guided through:

  • A simple, engaging warm-up exercise
  • A focused drawing practice
  • A short journaling prompt

The workshops are lightly guided rather than heavily taught, with encouragement, prompts, and inspiration to help you find your own way.

You’ll be working with:

  • Visual references provided on screen
  • Your own objects and surroundings at home

Each session also includes a spring-inspired journaling idea to explore in your own time.

How It Works

  • Delivered live on Zoom
  • Recording included to watch anytime
  • Works as a stand-alone session or alongside the full series
  • Each session is unique, with different prompts and outcomes

These sessions are for you if:

  • You like the idea of drawing more from imagination but don’t know where to start
  • You feel a bit stuck or uninspired by traditional, reference-based art classes
  • You want a more exploratory, process-led approach to drawing
  • You’re curious about combining drawing and journaling
  • You’d like to go a little deeper into your creative practice
  • You would like to purchase the whole collection of classes rather than individually.

Materials

Keep it simple and flexible, use what you enjoy!

  • Paper (copier paper + cartridge paper)
  • A sketchbook (or scrap book for sticking in your drawings and writings)
  • A notebook for writing (optional – you can use your sketchbook)
  • Your favourite drawing and writing tools
  • Optional: coloured pencils, pens, or paint

A Note on the Experience

This is not about getting things right.

It’s about trying things out, following your curiosity, and allowing your line to evolve naturally.

Expect a session that feels open, creative, and a little bit unexpected!

What people are saying:

THANK YOU for inviting me to your "Free Work-a-long" yesterday!  For me - it was so enjoyable listening to you talk about your creative life and art.  In addition, I absolutely loved seeing the artwork created by the other ladies and listening to them discuss projects, books, meeting people, etc.  This was like a 'VISUAL PODCAST" where we worked along with you.~Karla

Thank you! I cannot begin to tell you  how wonderful I think this workshop is! Every time I think your classes can’t get any better …..Like many of your followers I feel this is the class I’ve been looking for but didn’t realise it!  Brilliant! ~Jane

I just wanted to thank you for how you make your classes accessible for me. I’m disabled and on a low income so many course offerings are beyond my affordability. Thank you for your generosity I very much appreciate it. I just did the mini map making course.  What fun!  I have a brain injury so video is the only way I can learn and I find your teaching style clear and simple to follow. ~Angela
