Learn how to make your own Sketchbook!

Join me for this extra special workshop where I will take you through the process of how I make my rather wonky, slightly tatty upcycled sketchbooks!

I am not a trained bookbinder and create my sketchbooks intuitively through some found and learned techniques. I've muddled them together to create a system which produces the most creative a fun hand bound books!

I use the covers from old books and add pages with a variety of different papers resulting in each book being creative, beautiful and unique!

Includes Step-By-Step Instructions and Tips & Tricks

During the workshop videos, you will learn how to bind your own book but this isn't a precise class and messy imperfection is encouraged and embraced!

Together we will choose paper for your pages, fix up old books covers and learn some binding techniques which will hopefully hold everything together!

With gentle encouragement, I teach you how to look at your journal construction as a process lead experience and trust in your ideas and the decisions you make along the way.

The great thing about making your own journal is that you can personalise and  adapt it to how you like to use it whether that's a sketchbook, scrapbook, diary, nature journal, commonplace book...the options are endless!

Guided and Friendly Tuition

These lovely artist books are such a great starting point for any project and could be used in so many ways. I like to add sketches, notes and collage to my sketchbooks which record family life, wonky old buildings and the natural world.

Throughout the workshop, I’ll share loads of inspiring ideas and pathways to explore in the binding process which may set you off on another creative adventure!

Making your own journals is a fantastic gateway into other explorative projects. Through making my sketchbooks I have learnt about what materials and paper I like to use and the subjects which inspire me.

I wonder where will it lead you, my friend?

Lucia is an artist, letterer and teacher who loves creating illustrated journals and artist books. She has become known for a unique and creative approach to her work which has been described as 'quietly joyful...a nostalgic, moving and profound ...a treasure chest of creativity and inspiration'

Her journals and sketchbooks, which record life as it happens, conversations, inspirations and experiments, have become works of art in their own right. Many of Lucia's sketchbooks are handmade with a range of papers and combine traditional and experimental hand lettering with watercolour, collage and mixed media sketches.

She is inspired by a diverse range of things: the old, rusty and wonky, worn architectural patinas, ancient diagrams, aged buildings, old books and ephemera, explorers' sketchbooks and vintage field guides.
